POSITION SUMMARY

Provides a wide range of respiratory care services to patients, ranging from neonates to geriatric age groups, as directed by physician’s orders in all settings. This individual works independently as a licensed clinician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Administers aerosolized medication, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques,and hyperinflation therapy upon physician orders/protocols.

2.Administers oxygen and participates in patient care decisions regarding oxygen administration, utilizing respiratory assessment skills and lab results. Draws, analyzes and interprets arterial blood gases.

3.Participates in patient education and evaluation. Assesses patient’s vital signs, breath sounds, patient history, etc.

4.Participates as a member of the Trauma/Code 9, Critical Assessment and Critical Care Transport Teams.

5.Performs CPR and airway management

6.Consults patients at physician’s and nurse’s request to expedite appropriate respiratory care.

7.Assists physician with fiberoptic bronchoscopy.

8.Documents patient involvement in medical record.

9.Initiates and changes invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation according to protocol in physician’s absence. Changes ventilator setting according to protocol and/or physician order.

10.Conducts apnea tests for determination of brain death.

11.Maintains, assembles, troubleshoots, disinfects, prepares for sterilization and documents for repair all respiratory care devices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

1.Education: Minimum of an Associates Degree and passed CRT or RRT exam.
2.Experience: One (1) year clinical experience required. Three (3) to five (5) years of critical care experience preferred.
3.Certification/Licensure: Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment. Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care and State of NH Respiratory Care Practitioner License. ACLS required within 6 months of hire. PALS required within 6 months of hire.
