Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SREC) has an immediate opening for a Finance Manager.
Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc., is 1 of 4 electric cooperatives in New York State. SREC is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric distribution utility. The headquarters office is located in Bath, south of New York State’s Finger Lakes Region. SREC has been dedicated to providing electric distribution services and energy-saving programs to the Finger Lakes Region of New York since 1944 and Western New York since 1969. Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative distributes dependable power to over 6,300 homes, farms and small businesses. The Cooperative maintains over 1,100 miles of primary distribution line throughout Steuben, Schuyler, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, employs 27 full time employees and is governed by a 9 member, democratically elected, Board of Directors. The mission of Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. is to improve the quality of rural life by providing our members with low cost, reliable electricity and related services in a safe manner.
This position is responsible for the finance and accounting functions of the Cooperative. Finance and accounting management includes directing and controlling the Cooperative’s financial functions and practices to ensure compliance with all accounting principles, Cooperative policies, state, and federal guidelines. This position provides leadership and manages all accounting personnel and provides information and analytical support to the management team and the Board of Directors. Additional responsibilities include finance, banking, long-term debt management, financial planning activities, overseeing certain regulatory matters.
Qualified candidates are required to have a 4 year college degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field and 5 or more years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including management and development of personnel, internal controls, budgets, financial forecasts and plans, to include at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with electrical utility accounting experience using the FERC/RUS Uniform System of Accounts, and those who have obtained their Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation, and those holding advanced degrees in relevant subject matter.
