Job Description – Cost Accounting Manager

Oversees the cost control systems, manages and interprets cost audits, and prepares cost accounting reports for presentation to top management. Gathers historical cost data (materials, labor, depreciation, operating expenses, etc.), to compare budgets with actual expenses. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met, adhering to approved budgets.


  • Direct and support the accurate development, maintenance, and reporting of manufacturing, raw materials, packaging, shipping and fulfillment, and other inventory-related costs in accordance with financial guidelines
  • Implement and maintain standard cost accounting by establishing and maintaining bill-of-materials for each item
  • Perform required system maintenance to set-up inventory items, record shipments, scrap/adjustments, transfers, and other inventory-related transactions
  • Manage yield/scrap levels and LCM inventory reserves
  • Analyze actual costs and prepare monthly reports comparing actuals to forecasted/standard production costs
  • Prepare timely and pertinent cost variance reports and make recommendations or take appropriate action on items as needed
  • Participate in the monthly accounting close process – prepare and enter journal entries and prepare and distribute reports
  • Support the Operations team to maintain optimal inventory levels and improve visibility on supply chain and inventory costs
  • Prepare cost estimates of new or special products for establishing selling prices and production forecasts
  • Maintain responsibility for routine compilation of parts manufacturing costs for payroll, inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances
  • Calculate burden rates and sets up expense budgets for manufacturing and service departments
  • Check and clear data on labor and materials costs burden and expense items, inventory, and profit and loss adjustments
  • Devises, installs or controls systems for determining unit cost of products or services
  • Distributes costs between the various divisions of management and production
  • Classifies production costs into wages, material and overhead
  • Implement and maintain electronic tracking system for inventory and reconciliation between electronic tracking system, ERP and physical cycle counts
  • Contribute pertinent cost analysis associated with the annual budgeting process
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing environment a plus
  • Advanced in MS Excel
  • Knowledge or electronic inventory tracking system a plus (RFID or barcode)
  • Highly detail oriented and organized with ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Outstanding oral communication, analytical and written skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external parties to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced high-growth environment and improve/implement processes as the Company and Finance department grow

Salary: $100,000.00 to $125,000.00 /year
