Position Title: Financial Controller
Accountable to: Executive Director
We are looking for a Candidate with business or non-profit experience. We are a no kill animal welfare organization with over 40 employees in Fort Myers. Our mission is to provide humane care for surrendered animals by offering refuge, providing medical care, and facilitating and adoptive home. Each year we take in more than 2,000 animals in need of compassionate care.
Qualifications for this position include the following:
Experience in general accounting, not-for-profit accounting is a plus.
Excellent computer skills with extensive knowledge of QuickBooks.
Bachelor’s Degree required. At least 10 years of experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller. This position requires great attention to detail. We are looking for someone with an ability to consistently find solutions to improve administrative and financial processes.
This is a hands on proactive position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Responsible for the maintenance of the Organization’s general ledger. Recording all daily business from numerous industry software reports / departments into Quickbooks, accurately classified by department.
Coordinating and recording deposits timely. Ensuring deposits to each restricted fund are made appropriately. Reconciling all bank accounts, PayPal, Network for Good.
Reconciling all restricted funds revenue and expenses and account balances. Reconciling all other general ledger accounts.
Entering and paying vendor invoices. Ensure all vendor invoices are signed off on by department heads.
Ensure proper processing of pet licenses and rabies vaccinations with Lee County.
Recording investment fund activity.
Oversee cash flow planning to ensure availability of funds as needed.
Processing payroll via ADP. Administration of benefits, Cobra,
Assist the CEO/Executive Director with human resources.
Ensure effective and streamlined administrative, financial, personnel and other management information.
Assists the CEO/Executive Director in the preparation of short term and long-range plans and annual budgets.
Provide support to the CEO/Executive Director in the preparation of grants.
Coordinate the timely production of donor tax receipt letters including reconciling Quickbooks with PayPal and Network for Good for accurate recording of donation and fund.
Coordinate the external audit and accumulate data necessary to ensure the proper filing of Federal tax return.
Monthly filing of state sales tax returns.
Interpret operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the Organization and make specific recommendations for operating and cost efficiencies.
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
Remain up to date on non-profit best practices and operations.
Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, policies, processes, tools and control systems.
Work with CEO/Executive Director to most efficiently work with veterinary software and accounting and financial reporting.
Ensure computer network and hardware support provided is effective and efficient.
Provide/plan for disaster recovery. Ensure daily backups are completed and that routine off site storage is maintained.
Evaluate and recommend new opportunities to utilize technology within the organization.
Present accurate and timely financial statements of the Organization. Coordinate reports with the CEO/Executive Director for presentation to the Board of Directors.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Affection for animals, concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace.
