Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the integrity of day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, and the effective use of financial resources of the organization. . Serves as a liaison for the finance department with other departments and outside agencies; provide technical assistance and support in the area of budget control and development as well fiscal and contract compliance to ensure that work is performed in accordance with Easter Seals policies and other regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of grant financial management, including but not limited to assisting with preparation of grant budgets and proposals, ensuring timely processing of grant receivables, working with grant directors to track and analyze grant expenditures, and preparing and filing all grant reports.
  • Deliver timely reports and analyses on financial position, cash flow, revenues and other financial information as may be requested by the CFO from time to time.
  • Supervises Finance staff; assigns duties, develops departmental work plans, and assesses performance.
  • Reviews monthly general ledger reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data reporting.
  • Prepares the required budget modification in a timely manner to ensure maximization of different contracts.

  • Provides financial information to all department heads in developing their annual budget proposals and in tracking utilization;
  • Review and post daily accounting entries as required;
  • Ensures all payroll allocations are correct and updated on a timely basis.
  • Ensure timely and proper reconciliation of general ledger to subsidiary accounts.
  • Assists with month end close process and prepare account reconciliations as required
  • Review and approve vouchers to ensure that all expenses incurred are necessary, reasonable and allowable in accordance with the contract and fiscal regulations.
  • Review, analyzes and monitors matching in kind requirements on a monthly basis to ensure contract requirements are being met.
  • Assure proper maintenance of control systems to safeguard program assets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB and other regulatory requirements. Complies with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  • Assist other departments in meeting reporting requirements (United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), childcare reimbursements, etc.).
  • Participate in annual audits, preparing schedules, reports and provides all requested information needed to conduct annual audit.
  • Performs other duties as requested

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure confidentiality with all information; as well as the security and safety of all documents/checks.
  • Ensure the safety of all staff, volunteers, visitors and individuals receiving services at Easter Seals.
  • Act in compliance with Medical and Non-Medical Emergency Procedures.
  • Assist individuals in evacuating building during emergency situations to include but not limited to: fire drills and external disaster drills. Specific duties to be assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Assume assigned responsibility for non-clinical duties during disaster and/or drills including but not limited to safety of files/office areas, closure of doors.

Educational & Experiential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and a minimum of 5 years working in the accounting field required, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master Degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with federally-required audits, grant monitoring visits, cost allocation plans, and Office of Management and Budget circulars.
  • High level of accuracy and analytical skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of FASB regulations and their application to non-profit institutions.
  • Knowledge of regulations on corporations, non-profit institutions, federal grant recipients and County departments, fund accounting and fiscal management.
  • Experience with federally-required audits, grant monitoring visits, cost allocation plans, and Office of Management and Budget circulars.
  • Ability to develop financial plans and budgets and maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting and Paycom preferred
  • Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to detect errors and monitor own work to ensure quality
  • Ability to reconcile and/or balance financial transactions and accounts
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working on various projects simultaneously and often with multiple interruptions.
  • High level of accuracy and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information
