Named to Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list in 2017 and as Digiday’s Most Innovative Publisher in 2018—Who What Wear is looking to hire a seasoned Accounting Manager to join their growing finance team! The Accounting Manager will work cross-functionally with the finance and operations teams and have the opportunity to greatly impact and improve process within our growing media and consumer brands business. This role will oversee the day to day accounting for the company including preparing and/or reviewing appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger system, preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, assisting with regulatory reporting as applicable, and related duties. The ideal candidate has proven leadership skills and is extremely analytical and solution-oriented, comfortable working cross-functionally, and thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This position is based in Los Angeles and reports to the CFO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct all month-end and year-end close procedures across the accounting team
  • Review and/or prepare all monthly accounting schedules and reconciliations
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries proposed by accounting staff
  • Analyze detailed financial statements to identify significant issues and key drivers
  • Prepare the consolidated monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure compliance with monthly reporting requirements for the UK subsidiary
  • Supervise, train, and develop two staff accountants, including: review all outgoing invoices to ensure accurate and consistent billing practice, oversight of the AR accountant in daily cash collection efforts to achieve monthly goals, development of monthly AR analytics and metrics (i.e. borrowing base, DSO), review of all outgoing payments to ensure accurate and timely vendor payments
  • Liaise with the bank to manage the corporate credit card program
  • Work with management to assign tasks in accordance with financial timelines and calendars
  • Lead complex accounting projects and initiatives across the team and other departments
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all internal and external audits (i.e. financial, tax, insurance) to ensure corporate compliance
  • Perform technical accounting research to support significant transactions as required
  • Develop and build new and standardized financial reports to leverage accounting systems
  • Recommend business process changes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and manage special projects as needed

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA license preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of general accounting or finance experience
  • Advanced Excel skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Public accounting experience is a plus
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail, highly reliable and responsible
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Team player that can thrive in a fast-paced environment
